Nonclassical Shock Waves of Conservation Laws: Flux Function Having Two Inflection Points
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider the Riemann problem for non-genuinely nonlinear conservation laws where the flux function admits two inflection points. This is a simplification of van der Waals fluid pressure, which can be seen as a function of the specific volume for a specific entropy at which the system lacks the non-genuine nonlinearity. Corresponding to each inflection point, A nonclassical Riemann solver can be uniquely constructed. Furthermore, two kinetic relations can be used to construct nonclassical Riemann solutions.

Nonclassical Riemann solvers with nucleation
We introduce a new nonclassical Riemann solver for scalar conservation laws with concave-convex flux-function. This solver is based on both a kinetic relation, which determines the propagation speed of (undercompressive) nonclassical shock waves, and a nucleation criterion, which makes a choice between a classical Riemann solution and a nonclassical one. We establish the existence of (nonclassi...

There is a huge jump in the theory of conservation laws if the convexity assumption is dropped. In this paper we study a scalar conservation law without the convexity assumption by monitoring the dynamics in the fundamental solution. Three extra shock types are introduced other than the usual genuine shock, which are left, right and double sided contacts. There are three kinds of phenomena of t...
متن کاملQualitative Behavior of Conservation Laws with Reaction Term and Nonconvex Flux
The aim of the paper is to study qualitative behavior of solutions to the equation du df(u) , . m + ~oT9(o)' where (x,t) £lx R+,u = u(x,t) € R. The main new feature with respect to previous works is that the flux function / may have finitely many inflection points, intervals in which it is afEne, and corner points. The function g is supposed to be zero at 0 and 1, and positive in between. We pr...
متن کاملWhy many theories of shock waves are necessary: Kinetic functions, equivalent equations, and fourth-order models
We consider several systems of nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws describing the dynamics of nonlinear waves in presence of phase transition phenomena. These models admit undercompressive shock waves which are not uniquely determined by a standard entropy criterion but must be characterized by a kinetic relation. Building on earlier work by LeFloch and collaborators, we investigate the nume...
متن کاملThe Fundamental Solution of a Conservation Law without Convexity
The signed fundamental solution of a scalar conservation law is constructed explicitly or implicitly when its flux is nonconvex. The flux is assumed to have finite number of inflection points. The fundamental solution constructed consists of a series of rarefaction waves, contact discontinuities and a shock. These analytically constructed fundamental solutions are also compared with numerical a...
